YUTURI LODGE

Journey to the fantastic world of the ecuadorian amazon and the Yuturi lodge and biological reserve, a true paradise located 180 kms, east of the city of Coca.

Your adventure begins with a 45-minute flight from Quito crossing the Andes and flying out over the jungle to Coca. From there you will travel by motor boat along the Napo river, one of the main tributaries of the amazon, to the Yuturi river. During the trip you will have many opportunities to enjoy the jungle scenery and the site of an occasional Quichua village.

SACHA LODGE

Imagine yourself drifting down a narrow, winding creek, surrounded on all sides by a lush, endless sea of tropical greenery. All that separates you from the deep black amazon waters is a canoe hand-carved out of a single tree trunk. As you maneuver around a bend something unidentified crashes off into the underbrush and you catch a glimpse of two magnificent, colorful macaws startled into flight. Suddenly, the forest erupts with a roar so loud that all you can imagine is some giant, fierce predator on the prowl. But as you turn to face your destiny, the menace is revealed as a family of furry red howler monkeys huddled together in a treetop. With a sigh of relief you continue onward, deeper into the unknown.

Created in 1979, Cuyabeno is a protected area of rainforest of unique beauty. Its 655,000 hectares of rivers, flooded forest, beautiful lagoons, and wonderful primary forest contain an incredible diversity of species of plants and animals. Cuyabeno is also home to 5 indigenous communities: the Cofan, the Siona, the Quichua, the Shuara, and the Secoya. Each has its own cultural identity, and still leads its unique traditional way of life by hunting, fishing, and living in harmony with the surroundings.

The bird life in Cuyabeno is particularly spectacular with over 515 species having been recorded, including such rare species as the prehistoric-looking hoatzin, the umbrella bird, blue-headed parrots, the white-eared jacamar, the scarlet macaw, and the awesome harpy-eagle with its eight-foot wing-span. Additionally, over 12,000 species of plants have been identified within Cuyabeno.

Green Camp consists of indian-style huts built from local materials by the native community. There is a separate area designed for the kitchen and dinning room, large bedrooms capable of accommodating up to 20 people, and communal bathrooms (toilets and showers). If you prefer, Green Camp could provide you with camping equipment such as a tent, a mattress, sheets, and blankets.

CUYABENO LODGE

When Cuyabeno Lodge started operating in 1986, Sandaes Turismo believed that the rainforest traveler should be hosted in conditions which would both be in harmony with the surrounding environment and meet the needs of the modern visitor. Operating as an ethical eco-lodge, we hire local indigenous guides and bilingual naturalist guides, have a close relationship with the local community, power our dining hall with solar panels and apply the principals of environmentally sensitive tourism in all aspects of our programs.
The cabins are airy, thatched roof huts, spaced throughout a small opening in the pristine amazon rainforest and flooded rainforest that for most of the year forms a peaceful glassy lake.
Adjacent to the cabins is a spacious dining hall which serves delicious ecuadorian, siona, and international cuisine.

One of the best ways to explore the rainforest is by canoe, and Cuyabeno, with its maze of waterways, provides you with ample opportunities to experience this wet and wild green world in a way that is intimate and highly rewarding.
You are guided through the forest by an indigenous guide from the Siona community, as well as a bilingual naturalist guide. Activities include canoeing (in motorized and dug-out crafts), kayaking, hiking, bird-watching, swimming, taking night walks, and swinging in your hammock.
